General Topic

I hereby request the NIE alumni to make the management of NIE understand engineering is not simply just studying. There should be prominance to curricular activities too and the students need to be encouraged to attend technical fests conducted by prestigious institutions like IIT and NIT.

In these fests, students get to know about many things they develop thier persona. They get informed about the most current technologies. We students are trying our best to convince them but seek the help of the alumni for the effort to be fruitful. I have heard from many that NIE alumni is the most active of the committees in NIE.

Our college is lagging behind a lot in SPORTS too. Our college students don't get the exposure which other colleges in for example RVCE, PESIT, MSRIT, BMSCE and especially other bangalore colleges get.

Even though students of NIE are best at their BOOKS, they need to have gained knowledge about many other things by the time they leave the college. They must be street smart. So i request even the faculty to encourage students to attend more fests and help them organise more fests in the college.

thank you

I agree with and support your plea.  In my experience as an old student and a member of staff some 40 years ago, NIE management even then never looked forward and around to see what was best for their students.  I guess they are continuing their favourite'navel gazing' attitude today and forgetting that if they do not move forward with the times, the world will leave them behind as is happening today.  Since my student and teaching days, NIE have been producing some of the best engineering students in the country as good students always chose this institution and it has never been due to the effort of the NIE management or their foresight.

Your comment: "Our college students don't get the exposure which other colleges in for example RVCE, PESIT, MSRIT, BMSCE and especially other bangalore colleges get".

I totally agree with you . I knew  for example, what pathetic position RVCE was in late 1960s and early 1970s.  They had student recruitment problems and staff retention problems then.  Many at that time said that RVCE located near Kengeri will close as it was in a bad location and that it was new and cannot compete with institutions like NIE which had a rich heritage etc.. etc..  See how they turned it around?  They injected new blood in the management who had vision and drive ( not retired people and others whose vision at best is to keep things ticking as we have seen in NIE for the last 50 years) and across departments.

The NIE management should be inviting the IITs giving venues to conduct the tests or link with them in a way which brings benefits to students.  The NIEAA  leadership should  strongly press them to do this instead of wasting money celebrating jubilies and indulging in mutual admirations of old men when they should be encouraging their young current students who are the future of the country.  For once at least the NIEAA should learn  from what other institution AAs  like the RVCEAA are doing and should do what is right for the current students  who will one day become alumni.   That is the way to enrich the NIEAA and maximise the alumni loyalty.  Otherwise, we will continue to see the sorry situation of many thousands of NIE alumni wanting to forget their institution, most I have met do not want to know or remember that stage of their lives in NIE which did nothing for them when they were students. They ignore  NIEAA which has been chasing them for funds. The result is NIEAA has very limited reach and very little influence with alumni in the country and wider world.

Common man .This is old story of nie which the management has been following religiouly. The reach of NIEAA is very limited.Useing few old and famous alumni they want to make big.the problem is we should have a association which is appealing to all.No publication in paper or in print media they have done the alumni function . Is this the way of conducting the event.Bullshit this is..
