While congratulating NIEAA, I do want to say that through its perpetual 'navel gazing' habit it lost 50 years of opportunity to recruit more and new blood alumni, bringing them into positions of responsibility in the AA and thus ensuring that the younger generation carry the torch forward and work towards putting the institution firmly on the global education map. With no disrespect to those elderly founder members, as an grey elderly person myself, while remembering their services (?) the celebration and honour should have been reserved for the younger alumini and younger graduates of the institute. Alas, as mentioned above, these are not in numbers because of the lost opportunities I mentioned above. In the absence of no stake-holding interest from the younger graduates, perhaps it is left to those old alumni to indulge in self-congratulation and mutual admiration. It is a pity that both the Institute which has been letting its students down and the alumni association which is not serving the younger graduates, are run with the same ethos that deflects many of the young and bright graduates from taking active part in activities that benefit the institute. With its huge base of exemplary graduates of yore and recent, NIE and NIEAA can move mountains, but remain totally obscure to the wide world.
